PRODUCTION NOTES

Arto: "Out of the songs on this EP 'Child' is definitely my favourite of the bunch. To me the original melody, written and session recorded by Jari, had this kind of fragile, retro music box (or maybe gramophone-ish) feel to it.. Even despite it was recorded using a electric organ sound (of sorts). I liked this feel a lot and wanted to see if I can push the song more towards that direction, but ie. without explicitly rewriting the melody using sound of a music box.

Jari's original was also running at a slightly higher tempo, and I felt that it removed some of the impact from the sad but beautiful melody. Slowing things down really added to the feel - you can better experience the beautiful notes drifting past you, one by one.

While putting together 'Child', the production choice about song order on the EP had already been made and so we knew that 'Child' is going to be followed up by 'Farewell'. The latter used similar electric organ sound for it's melodies, and thus to create a slight bridge between the two I sampled the bass note from 'Farewell' and wrote a bass part to 'Child' using this instrument. It felt like a nice change of direction, adding a solid foundation to the more fragile, phasing sound in the beginning."
